No. Depending on the problem, a correctly selected laminated make-up can be the better solution. We look at the noise source, heat, orientation, panel size, frame system and budget before recommending anything.

Is acoustic laminated also a safety glass?

Yes — it is a laminated glass, with an acoustic interlayer in place of a standard interlayer, so it can serve both safety and acoustic purposes in the right application.

At Datco, we don't recommend one glass solution for every project. Noise, heat, orientation, safety, UV, panel size, frame system and budget all influence what performs best. Our strength is understanding what the project needs to achieve, then recommending the glass around that.

Laminated glass

Laminated glass is one of our core strengths. We work extensively with clear, grey, bronze, low-E, acoustic and heavier laminated make-ups. Common products start around 6.38mm, with 8.38mm, 10.38mm, 12.38mm and 15.38mm a regular choice for specific builds, and substantially heavier laminated configurations available for suitable applications. Depending on the make-up, laminated glass can provide excellent safety, acoustic, UV, solar and security benefits.

Double glazing and IGUs

Double glazing can be an excellent solution where improved insulation or combined performance is required. Suitable insulated glass units may incorporate clear, low-E, laminated, tinted or acoustic glass, depending on the project and the compatible window or door system.

Acoustic glass

Correctly selected laminated glass can provide excellent acoustic performance, and may outperform some standard double-glazed configurations for particular noise problems. The right solution depends on the noise source, the glass make-up, the frame, the seals and the installation.
